Industrial Trip to
Ireland
24th -
27th October, 2007
The first industrial trip of
the 2007/2008 academic year took place in Dublin, Ireland from
Wednesday 24th to Saturday the 27th of October.
First stop on the trip was a
visit to the Irish parliament on Thursday where faculty and students
had the opportunity to observe the government ministers in operation
as they debated the agenda issues for that day.
Following this, a tour of
the actual parliament building was organised which provided some
interesting facts about general Irish history and the development of
the political system in Ireland.
Following lunch in the
parliament restaurant, the party met with the minister for justice, Mr
Brian Lenihan. The minister spoke to the group on diverse political
issues with a question and answer session afterwards.
On Thursday afternoon the
group was to be found in the Jameson brewery. Following a presentation
on the making and marketing of Irish whiskey and Jameson in
particular, the group toured the brewery and obviously sampled the
product itself. Thursday was rounded off with socialising in the South
side area of Dublin city with drinks at Samsara and dinner at the
Trocedero restaurant.
Friday was the turn of the
other famous Irish brewery -Guinness. The group spent an interesting
afternoon exploring the history of the company, the actual production
process and the advertising/marketing of Guinness.
On Friday evening, dinner at
the Fire Restaurant was followed by dancing late into the night at
Dublin’s top nightclub “Lillies Bordello”.
